Jean Monnet Projects in Armenia Presented at AESC General Assembly

On January 22, National Erasmus+ Office in Armenia was invited by the “Association of European Studies for the Caucasus” (AESC) to share the national data on Jean Monnet Actions in Armenia during its annual General Assembly, this year held online. The NEO Coordinator Lana Karlova shared the results of the 3 Calls for Application in 2016, 2019 and 2020, as a result of which Armenian higher education institutions were successfully involved in 8 winning Jean Monnet Actions: 4 Modules, 2 Projects and 2 Networks.

The Modules touched upon the following topics:

Migration policy challenges in the EU and the South Caucasus” – Center for European Studies, Yerevan State University (YSU) (2016-2019)

European Integration and EU Values: Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law” – Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences (currently renamed to Brusov State University) (2016-2019)

Laboratory of Approximation of Armenian Legislation to the EU Acquis” – Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences (currently renamed to Valery Brusov State University) (2019-2022)

EU Politics, Policies and Polity” – Armenian State University of Economics (ASUE) (2019-2022)

In 2020, for the first time, Armenian partner Universities (including newcomers) were involved in the 2 following Jean Monnet Projects, that support innovation, knowledge-sharing, and communication on European issues:

Comparing EaP Countries’ Strategies and Solutions in the Area of Approximation of Domestic Legal Systems to the EU Acquis / Comparing Approximation Strategies and Solutions” (COMPASS) – Brusov State University (BSU) (2020-2023).

Promotion of the European Studies in Armenia” – Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU), Yerevan Gladzor University (GU), Public Administration Academy of the Republic of Armenia (PAARA), Vanadzor State University (2020 – 2023).

Finally, the two Jean Monnet networks include:

“EU and EAEU: Between Conflict and Competition, Convergence and Cooperation” EUCON Network (2020) where Armenia is represented by the Armenian State University of Economics

“Developing European Studies in the Caucasus” (DESCNet) (2015) implemented by the Centre for European Studies of Yerevan State University.

The GA was moderated by Dr. Anna Khvorostiankina, the Coordinator of Jean Monnet “Legal approximation Laboratory” (LegAL) Module and the COMPASS project. It was the first regional Jean Monnet dissemination event where Armenian partners had a platform to share their JM action-related information, aspirations, achievements and synergies. One of such examples is the winner of 2020 Jean Monnet Network EUCON the Armenian State University of Economics, presented by the Local Coordinator Albert Hayrapetyan, who introduced the main objectives of the Network and how ASUE experience in Jean Monnet and CBHE projects (such as REFINE project) have assisted the University in the promotion and popularisation of European Studies institution-wide.
